Disgraced Olympic track star Marion Jones has asked President Bush to commute her six-month prison sentence for lying to federal agents about her use of performance-enhancing drugs and a check-fraud scam.The Justice Department confirmed Monday that Jones is among hundreds of convicted felons who have applied for presidential pardons or sentence commutations, but would provide no further details. A pardon removes a conviction from someone's record, while a commutation only reduces or eliminates the person's sentence.
Jones was sentenced in January to six months in prison and 400 hours of community service.

11:23 is right...besides the fact that it's rare for people to serve their entire jail time now anyway. Marion just may be out of luck though, because she is in the public eye and the judicial system does not want to appear lax.
I got love for her but 6 months isn't that bad, i know she has done more than half of it already. Plus b/c of her other ppl got there medals taken away.

she's a fake, she can't run as fast as she claimed. the people on her team worked hard for that medal, while she sat back and took the credit. she deserves exactly what she got. She needs to teach her sons that if you do the crime you do the time.

Flo Jo is the true Queen of track and field. Jeese Owens earned his medals honestly. Black people have the natural talent and probably there's some in the hood with God given talent that's better and don't have the opportunity. Quit ya bitchin'; Bush pardoned his homeboy, not you. If only she was the CEO of Enron or some other big company of theives she would be walking free in no time.
Her commutation plea could be a part of some larger strategy to rehab her image. Maybe a commutation (no matter when it's granted) would make an eventual plea for a presidential pardon more likely.
Obviously her days of big-ticket endorsements are behind her, but a future career making motivational speeches ("I fucked up, but found forgiveness," etc.) might be more likely if she can officially erase the conviction from her history.
On the other hand, she may just be sick of the menu—as Bronx points out LOL. A steady diet of jail-house snatch (in 100+ degree heat) is no picnic.

@2:57 PM- FLO JO(RIP) was as dirty as the day was long. Why do you think she retired so fast after the 88 olympics. No other female runner has come close to her times since(10:49 100 and 21:49(?)200).The closest are Jones did 10:60 somthing and Merlene Ottely ran 10:70.
FLo Jo's body changed dramaticly(tp) between 84-88 as did her times. I think a large portion of the female althletes in the 88 Olympics ran dirty. Look at the way their bodies changed between 84,88,and 92 olympics.
Carl Lewis pulled Flo Jo's card for being dirty. Lewis was running dirty too by the way.
Track&Field does not try to protect its althletes like other sports do. If you are caught dirty you are on your own.

To be honest with you, I am not sure how I feel about drugs in the sport. I want to see faster times but I don't want athletes to damage their bodies. If an athlete does not want to dope, how can she/he beat out the other 8 who do? In T&F, the training alone will put a hurting on the body.
upnorthlegend-I remember that. He pardoned one chic who went to jail because she was living with her drug dealer boyfriend. I forgot her name but she was a student and got caught up with ole dude. She droped her square boyfriend, an enginering student for him. I think I read somewhere that she has gotten her life togeather and finished school so good for her.
Marion didn't only ruin her own life, she seriously tarnished the accomplishments of her teammates. Four of her teammates have been asked to return their gold medals, and four other teammates have been asked to return their bronze medals--because Marion was caught cheating. And she wants to be pardoned?

I think the thing to remember is steriods were legal for a very long time. Nearly every major body builder and athlete used the substance before the drug became illegal, either to heal their body or boost performance. Nevertheless, steriods cannot replace talent.
