'Memba back in the day (the early 1980s) when the white rock bands like Poison, Bon Jovi, White Snake, Motley Crue, White Lion and etc. first came out on MTV with their videos and they had white women with big hair and Daisy Duke shorts and hooker type stilleto heels on, writhing 'round on tops of cars and other props and shaking their thin white asses in the videos for the white rock bands?
Tipper Gore, Al Gore's wife, lead a nationwide censorship and ban on those videos from being played on the airwaves because she deemed them offensive to her and her white female peers. We haven't seen a degrading white band video since, have we? Tipper stopped that shit in its tracks.
Well, in the 1990s and 2000s, niggas and rap took up where the white bands left off and started degrading or allowing Black women an outlet to where they can degrade themselves with the jiggabooing shenanigans they do in these horrendous, horrifying, disgraceful gangsta rap videos, and nobody (SO FAR) has done anything to censor or ban these gangsta rap videos.
That's a shame. I guess the Black woman isn't worth standing up for, especially since she don't stand up for herself.
I stopped watching BET when they showed Nelly's "Tip Drill" video. How sad for Black women. I shoulda stopped watching BET long before that.

this was the truth. this is the first time i saw it to the end. i love this show. even though the cartoon network was scared to broadcast the show, it still reached the people. the more you continue to let children watch this mess bet will always be the same until you seriously demand change in numbers. i would never let my children watch that crap
Viacom is evil people... not saying mr. johnson was a whole lot better but my pet theory is that viacom bought BET so they could slowly kill it off. I bet in a couple of years it will cease to exist as we knew it back in the day (notice how all they have on is comedy repeats and 2 hours of videos)- VH1 soul will probably replace it in the cable lineup.

Whether it's Hugh Hef or Nelly, giving women an outlet in which to degrade and debase and jigaboo themselves is shameful. With all that black people have had to face coming up in this country (so they say), you would think they would take their Constitutional freedom of expression and right to free speech and do good positive things that foster literacy and education and employment in their communities, instead, they let the sick, over/under sexed male rappers with access to film and money do what they do and speak for them.

yeah, it's only music channel,but BET could be doing so much better. I'm old enough to remember Video Soul and Rap City. When MTV has nothing but rock band and hour and half Yo!MTVRaps,I could click over to BET to see the underground R&B/Soul/Hiphop/Rap videos that MTV didn't want to show.

Once upon a time, BET was good. It show alot of positive things within the black community. Rap videos were a very small part of the rotation, then sudden they toss out the positive things and replace it with nothing but crap.

@thagrindaholic: I don't think so. Once upon a time BET did have thought provoking programming and showed many different sides of the Black cultural experience in America. They systematically eliminated all that stuff to cater to the lowest common denominator. Ass-shakin' is fine in moderation (UnCut?), but not when it comprises your entire lineup and your name pretends you speak for all of Black entertainment. I was deeply ashamed when an older white friend told me they had begun watching BET to see what Black people liked to watch. (cultural curiosity) I immediately told my friend to cease and desist because that bullshit doesn't speak for the majority.

Sumner owns... viacom, mtv,vh1,bet cbs, paramount and dreamworks studios midway games and much much more...so, you can kinda put into perspective how 'important' our culture would be to somone like him. He probably uses bet as a loss leader for taxes.
This guy may own all the entertainment companies but he has no control on what goes on at these networks. Just as the animation illustrates, you have people at BET sitting in a boardroom coming up with ways to propagandize blacks down the path of degradation with their ghettofantastic programming. They are doing this …and by letting BET's foolishness' to continue, we are ultimately doing it to ourselves.

This man is a majority stakeholder in all these companies - in some cases he owns up to 70%. Of course he is in control over what happens at them, he just doesn't care about black people because he isn't one of us.
Again, this is the man who fired Tom Cruise, who was putting minimum 400 Million into his pocket for every movie Tom starred in...because he played himself on Oprah. So... yeah he cares, just not about our issues.
As long as the companies continue to do what they are supposed to - either make money or lose it, he doesn't care how its run. So in a sense you're right - ms lee & company (we) are doing it to ourselves.
I wondered too why the word "banned" was attached to it until I did some research. Everyone who has it up, even YouTube is letting you/us know that it is "Banned" from being shown on TV. Even Adult Swim must have been in the sticky for attempting to air it.

This show is hella corny to me. It tries too hard to be witty, but never really hits the mark.
racist people look to the media to define who or what is black or white. i think the boondocks paints a negative picture for racist people. yet its the racist persons fault for accepting it as a view for all african-americans. anyway, this cartoon annoys the crap out of me. people keep saying its "the truth". but the thing is, its not the truth for everybody. i think that's why i hate it, because it lumps african-americans together like we all are supposed to 'get' this cartoon. its very obnoxious to me and an eye-sore to tv itself.

It's really offensive when people disparage my parents without knowing them. Sure, they have their faults, but they are complex and every relationship is complex. I can't say it isn't that way down in the U.S., but the rest of the world is not as hung up on race, truly. Yes, there are racists everywhere, but it as with almost everything else, in America, everything that's bad is worse there than anyplace else. Just because my parents share less genes than yours do, doesn't make their relationship somehow less legitimate. It just means I'm less inbred than you.

I like this show! BET is somewhat degrading; shows like College Hill and the after hours videos--which thank god they took off, where setting us back and not lifting. They are trying w/ their little rip offs of top 25s but they're not funny like Vh1's are

Okay so what, he's the major stockholder in these companies, but he still does not control the "content of their programming". Tom Cruise got fired from what?? He never worked at any of his companies, he had a talent deal with Paramount and because of lackluster movie ticket sales "perhaps" due to his crazy ass jumping on Oprah's coach, or but most importantly America woke up and saw how crazy his ass was/is? It was and its what everything always comes down to…the bottom line. Tom's not bringing in the MONEY they thought he could bring in. Period. I still don't think that ENDING the deal with Tom Cruise was Mr. Redstone's decision. This dude owns alot of shit and if you think he has time to sit down and have so much of a creative role at all his companies you've been sadly misled. I can't say whether or not he cares for black people, but I do know all he cares about is if it makes him $$$$.....
