Telfair Dropped From The Celtics
Sebastian Telfair was dropped by the Boston Celtics yesterday, four days after he was arrested on a gun charge.
"The facts and circumstances of his case have not been determined, but he does not have a Celtics locker and we do not anticipate that he will," said Celtic managing partner Wic Grousbeck yesterday.
Grousbeck did not say how the team would handle the remaining season on Telfair's contract, which paid the Brooklyn-born 21-year-old just under $1.8 million for the 2006-07 campaign.
Telfair, who at 6-foot was the shortest player ever drafted straight out of high school, had a disappointing season with the Celtics. He started just 30 of the 78 games he played after being traded from the Portland Trail Blazers last June.
The Lincoln HS phenom averaged just six points a game and the Celtics finished at the bottom of the NBA's Eastern Conference, with a worse record than even the Knicks.
Telfair, who has nine brothers and sisters and grew up in the rough Coney Island projects, still supports 17 relatives on his NBA salary.

I just don't get it. He was the shortest player drafted straight from high school, he shoulda been on his best behavior to keep his nose clean.
Now what? While 1.8 mill sounds like a lot of money to most folks, after taxes, legal fees and crumb snatching relatives, there probably isn't much left. Hope he had a plan B.

As far as HIS salary goes, Unlike Football... Basketball have GUARANTEED Contracts which means they MUST BE PAID !!!
Boston have to pay him what they owe him UNLESS he's STUPID and accepts a lump sum payment that's less than what the organization owes him !!!
Whether he gets paid what he's owed isn't really that important. Of course they'll pay him - they want to get rid of his ass.
The million dollar question is what does he do now?! He's a young Black man with a case and no college education.
The BEST thing he could do would be to swallow his pride and register for college. Might be too late for the Fall semester, but there is still time for Spring 08. In the meantime (excluding mamma), the rest of the crumbsnatchers would get cut off.
First off he wasn't good enough to come straight out of high school nor did he have the maturity. To the cat talking about a "guaranteed" nba contract. There are lots of things that can VOID a contract. My guess is that gettin ya ass arrested is one of them.

When he retired he was still getting paid HIS $12 - $15 million per year --- He retired for medical reason... He was STILL getting paid when that unfortunate incident happened!!!
As I said earlier, Guaranteed means that the club MUST honor/pay the contract IN FULL... Unless He (The NBA player) decides to settle for less !!!

When reached by The Globe on Tuesday night, Danny Ainge, the Celtics' executive director of basketball operations, said Telfair had not been waived and the team had not discussed waiving Telfair as an option.
Andy Miller, Telfair's agent, also told The Globe that Telfair has been neither waived nor released.

did you even read that link? The first thing it says is Celtics move toward severing ties with Telfair.
He has been a huge disapointment to the Celtics, and the only time he gets ink is for fucking up. YOu keep on thinking that fool is irreplacable.
Clearly, those 17 relatives need to start working because Sebastian Telfair is not the guaranteed cash cow.
Okay, here's one point that I must make:
Sebastian Telfair probably had no one advising him honestly about college and his professional basketball prospects. Did his cousin Stephon Marbury explain to him that maybe it would be smart to take a breather between high school and the NBA?
Did he have any family members who weren't looking at him as meal ticket (I'm guessing to the way that B. Spears family sees her) but thinking of him as a person who deserves a chance to live his own life?
Telfair may go to Europe to play...I hope that works for him.

His relatives need jobs. I would only support my mother and elderly grandparents. The rest would get money from me for the local community college or trade school.

Actually, I don't have a problem with him going straight to the NBA. Their was no guarante that he would been drated after he completed college. So I think he was smart to go to the NBA when he was drafted.
Its his behavior that I have a problem with. If he was smart he would put money aside for a college education when he retires. Furthermore, the chain that he had snatched was problbly worth enough money to pay his way through Harvard and bribe the people gian admittance.
I wish that sports teams would administer a character/common sense test before enlisting its players...what a damn waste. Just terrible....
This is a classic case of why high schoolers should'nt go to the NBA. For every Kobe Bryant or Lebron James there is a hun or more of these cats (remember Leon Smith? exactly.) I just hope that he has learned his lessons now and another team takes a chance on him. He is very talented and it would be a shame to have a wasted NBA career.

Everyone here thinks very small. How can you advise someone to go to college over the NBA? Especially after they have been in the NBA for 3 years already?
The goal of going to college to to earn a high income upon graduating. What job is going to pay you 1.8 million per year for 6 months worth of entertainment work with plenty of added bonuses like the NBA does?
This is why America has a high jobless rate...too many Indians and not enough Chiefs.
There are many viewers upon this blog...but only 1 person who had the guts, drive and "know-how" to make it successful. Most people reading this will never earn Telfairs 3 year salary within their whole lifetime! Who's the idiot then?
